Beautifully Different
Beautifully Different. Think about what makes you different and what you do that lights people up. Reflect on all the things that make you different – you’ll find they’re what make you beautiful.
I’m considering using the following paragraph to close out my Christmas letter this year:
I wanted to end this year’s note with a heartwarming story about my dogs, Sophie and Eli (in the photo, Eli’s the one with the pipe in his mouth; Sophie’s wearing the beard). For whatever reason, last Spring, Eli developed some sort of eye problem that produced this nasty build up of what can best be described as ‘goop’. It became progressively more noticeable as the dryness of the summer took hold. Then one day, I saw Sophie licking his goopy eye. This activity continued for quite a long time, probably weeks I’d say. Eventually I noticed that he no longer had any eye issues and still doesn’t to this day. I recall thinking to myself, ‘Gosh, what a great example of selflessness and love.’ It’s humbling, really. I mean, when was the last time you licked your loved ones’ eyes clean of disease? That’s right.
Never.
Anyhow! Merry Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Festivus/Pancha Ganapati/Winter Solstice/Feast of the Circumcision!
Sir @ December 8, 2010

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of any and/or all holidays occurring before, after, during or near the winter solstice, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.
I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling, and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great (not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only “America” in the western hemisphere), and without regard to the race, color, creed, age, sex, physical ability, veterans status, religious faith, or sexual preference of the wished.
By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms: This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her/himself or others, and is void where taxed or prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and such warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.
EXCEPT YOU, CAM NEWTON. You go to hell. Your coach is a cheater and your record’s a lie.
Again, I sit here laughing out loud! My dogs do they eye goop licking, and I have often marveled at the disgusting beauty that said eye licking conveys.
